About High West Distillery

High West Distillery was founded in 2009 by David Perkins and his wife, Jane. David, a former biochemist, and Jane relocated to Park City, Utah to open the first distillery in the state since 1870.

High West, Main Street, is a 100-year old restored livery stable. Restored and transformed with a 250-gallon still, began distilling in 2007.

In 2015 the company went on to open their bespoke facility at Blue Sky Ranch, Utah, which hosts a 1600-gallon copper pot still.

High West continue to operate their original Main Street location as a saloon, a fine dining experience at Nelson Cottage and a further saloon at Salt Lake City airport.

Whisky Advocate announced High West Distillery as their 23rd Annual Distillery of the Year in December 2016.

High West have gained a reputation for being open about their supply, and for taking innovative approaches to blending, which includes a unique blend of Bourbon and rye and peated Scotch malt whisky.

We are proud to include their Double Rye! whiskey, a blend of 2-year old and 16-year old rye whiskies.

Here at Craft Whisky Club we love the rustic glass bottle, and the depth of the Double Rye is becoming one of our all-time favourites.

Key people - David & Jane Perkins

Founders

In 2004, David Perkins, a biochemist with a love for cooking, decided to leave his job at Genentech and move to Park City to pursue his passion for whiskey.

It certainly helped that Jane, David’s wife, had a great grandfather who made the celebrated Duffy’s Pure Malt Whiskey in the late 1800’s.

David’s vision was to make a world-class western whiskey and just as important, help people learn about it in a fun and relaxing setting.

Key people - Brendan Coyle

Master Distiller

Born and raised in Minnesota Brendan came to Salt Lake City in 1999, after completing undergraduate work at the University of Utah he began his career with Red Rock Brewing Company.

After a several year apprenticeship in the brewing industry he headed to Edinburgh Scotland where he gained an appreciation for distilling and completed a Masters of Science in Brewing and Distilling Sciences at Heriot Watt University.

With a love for Skiing and the southern desert Brendan was drawn back to Utah to join High West in early 2008.
