About Mackmyra
The idea for Mackmyra started on a ski trip in 1998. One year later the first drops of the first ever Swedish malt whisky were distilled.
Since then Mackmyra have been innovating and exploring new methods, such as using the former Bodås mine as a perfect underground storage. See the image gallery for images. They have since moved out of the original distillery called Mackmyra Bruk, and built a new more environmentally friendly distillery with higher capacity that uses gravity to transfer the ingredients that later will become the spirit. They call this distillery “The gravity distillery”.
In yet another innovation, Mackmyra worked closely with rock band Motörhead to create a full flavoured whisky with a superb bourbon touch, distinctive of the band's style.
We are proud to host their Svensk Ek whisky. This is a 46.1% ABV bottling, non-chill filtered, and no artificial colouring.

Magnus was one of those eight friends on the almost infamous ski trip of 1998. Eight friends that met up at a mountain lodge in the spring of 1998. Each had taken along a bottle of malt whisky for the host; the topic of conversation was obvious. How do you make whisky? And why isn’t there a Swedish one? The question Magnus and friends to start exploring the possibilities of making their own Swedish whisky.
